Few things mark an occasion quite so beautifully as a bunch of blooms - and few occasions are quite so important as a wedding. Classic, coffee-coloured roses; big, sculptural orchids; statement-making flowers in a riot of colour; there are countless ways to add the soft petals of stunning bouquets to your big day, and Shire-based Aisling of Bloom Boss does them all.

Starting out in corporate events with a “little hobby” of floristry on the side, Aisling always had a “super passion” for the art. “One day, I just bit the bullet, started my training and opened a business,” she says. Her style has been viewed by wedding guests across the Shire and beyond for several years and counting - and while she certainly has a signature modern, contemporary and luxe approach, like the couples she works with, no two events have ever been the same.

“We're working with fresh and natural products,” she explains. “What you get on the day is always unique whilst staying true to your vision and aesthetic.” Aisling tends to embrace the beauty of the blooms as they are; it’s unstructured, it’s high-end, it’s “a little bit aspirational”, and it’s certainly not old-school or cookie-cutter.

To look at the finished product in all its glory is all well and good, but for those who have never worked with a florist before, the steps to get there - and ensure it feels like ‘you’ - are pretty unknown. Aisling’s ability to adapt her creations to the quirks and endearing qualities of couples lies in her approach: “Once I receive an inquiry, I ask them a lot of questions; including a run-down of their day. The goal is to get to know them.” From there comes a mood board, a design concept and, of course, the all-important quote. Then, it’s all up to Aisling, who takes on all the nitty-gritty that brides and grooms don’t want to think about: the admin, the logistics, sourcing vases, and importantly, sourcing flowers. Her cultivated relationships with growers ensure the best and freshest product. She also liaises with the venue as well as the cake designer and stylist to develop a run sheet. It certainly doesn’t hurt to have a background in events, now does it?

While some engage Bloom Boss with a clear-as-crystal vision, others are happier to let Aisling take the reins, she says. And as an industry professional with her finger on the floristry trend pulse, she’s the type you can put your trust in.

Those seeking some idea starters and expert tid-bits, tune in now.

“We are getting a lot of requests for our signature style of modern and unstructured arrangements, and whilst big open head roses will always be in demand we are seeing more seasonal, whimsical blooms added into the mix – think cosmos and chamomile. Palettes are steering more into buttery yellows, peach and citrus tones. We are also loving the return of pastel blue!”

If you’re planning a wedding and you’ve made it this far, you’re probably wondering about a vital aspect: pricing. Well, as anyone who has successfully done-and-dusted their big day will tell you, discerning a budget estimate for flowers is much like asking the length of a piece of string, the answer can reach as far and wide as your wildest imagination can take you. So, like most other florists in the industry, Aisling doesn’t restrict herself - or her clients - to a pricing structure. “Every enquiry I get is different from the next one, which is why our consultation process is so important to ensure a custom concept and quote specific to your big day.”

If you’re ready to make an inquiry of your very own, you can head over to Aisling’s website at bloomboss.com.au, where you can also view her portfolio.
