Indulging in a sweet treat is a form of self-care we can get around

We all get hit with cravings that only a sweet treat can cure from time to time. Whether your go-to is a perfect pastry, a delectable donut or, a slice (or two) of cake, indulging your taste buds in sugary goodness is a form of self-care that we can all get around.

Thankfully, here in the Sutherland Shire, we are blessed with many bakeries and dessert-dedicated boutiques offering sugar-loaded picks that can be bought, packed in a pretty box and taken home (or eaten in the car if you truly can’t fathom waiting).

Allow us to point you in the right direction. Here are 6 of the best takeaway desserts in the Sutherland Shire.

The best places for dessert on the go in the Sutherland Shire

Bec Bakes Caringbah

Bec Bakes

Bec Bakes’ dessert creations are totally OTT in the best possible way. Picture cupcakes piled high with beautifully swirled icing, cake-sized, stacked-up cookies, blondie cups, croissants oozing with Nutella and incredible custom designs; there’s no doubt that Bec is a true dessert aficionado who knows her craft. A Shire OG, a visit to Bec Bakes is a must for any local.

27 Cawarra Road, Caringbah

Flour bakery

Flour

It’s not just Flour’s oh-so-chic interiors that are delicious; these guys are masters where pastries, scrolls and cookies are concerned. Crafted by hand on-site from their ‘doughroom’, the desserts here are, put simply, next level. We recommend packing a box with a few selections (the almond croissant is a must-try), heading out to their sun-drenched tables and - if you can manage it - stashing a few for later.

Baked Collective Caringbah

Baked Collective

From their signature NYC-style chunky cookies and viral ‘Crookie’ (yes, a croissant-cookie hybrid) to their pretty and picture perfect cakes, Baked Collective offer some of the best sweet treats in the Shire. Pop by their Caringbah digs and peruse the ready-made cabinet for an easy take-home treat that will satisfy any sweet tooth.

Brooklyn Donuts

Brooklyn Donut’s

New York-inspired donuts and Campos coffee - we challenge you to name a better duo. With a range of over 30 (!) finger-licking creations to choose from (including Jam Packed, Lemon Meringue, Homer and Original Glaze), you will be hard pressed to leave with just one of Brooklyn Donut’s creations. In fact, we recommend grabbing a takeaway box of six…at least.

Level 1, Westfield Miranda (near Woolworths)

Sweet Mayhem Sutherland

Sweet Mayhem

Founded by Maria Mayhew, one of the original chefs at Black Star Pastry Newtown, the team behind this sweet shop clock in during the morning’s wee hours to bring us Shire-siders a wide-ranging selection of totally amazing cakes, cookies and tarts. A no-fuss, classic-style bakery, Sweet Mayhem’s creations feature perfect piping, scrolls of chocolate, and liberally-dusted icing sugar. The Lemon Meringue Chiffon is our personal favourite.

11/570 President Ave, Sutherland

Baked Patisserie

Baked Patisserie

Helmed by pastry chef Adam Johnson and his wife, Emma, Baked Patisserie specialise in made-to-order cakes for special occasions of all kinds. But, if you’ve been drawn here by a sudden hankering for something sweet, they also have a range of mouth-watering tarts, cupcakes, donuts and single slices available ready to go.
