Say Hello To The Animals

You won’t have to stray from the property to get the full country experience. Before you head out for the day, wander the grounds to visit the menagerie of gorgeous animals, including Stormy (once Australia’s biggest Shire horse), donkeys, cows, pigs and chooks. If you’re keen on really getting up close and personal, you can join the barranca team and feed the animals at 8:00am every day.

Wander Down To The River

The coast may be close by, but a swim in the creek that runs through the property is not to be missed. Laze around by the bank, take a dip if you’re game, or simply go for a hike through the towering river gums. For added convenience, you can get a ride in the ute with the barranca caretaker. If you’d like to explore more swimming spots, it’s also worth heading over to Flat Rock and dipping a toe under the Hampden Bridge, where you can hire a kayak.

By the time you’ve toured the property, you’ll no doubt be ready to refuel. If you’re keen to go further afield and truly embrace a day out, jump in the car and head via the beautiful Moss Vale Road to Burrawang Pub - a historic hotel that looks across the exquisite highlands. For something in closer proximity, try The General Cafe for handmade, fresh dishes that feature locally-sourced ingredients. Or, for an easy meal on the go, grab a pie from the bakery or a light bite from the Hampden Deli - you can’t go wrong.

Visit A Winery

The region is blessed with a number of award-winning wineries, many of which are within an easy drive from one another. Thanks to the Valley’s volcanic soil, both red and whites star in the new and old vineyards and their respective cellar doors, so there’s something for every palette. Top picks nearby include Yarrawa Estate in Kangaroo Valley, Artemis in Mittagong and Two Figs in Coolangatta.

Pick Up A Sweet Treat

For an afternoon pick-me-up, stop by Valley Fudge & Teahouse or Sweet As. These famous treat stores offer deliciously fluffy ice cream, piled-high milkshakes, donuts, and waffles. Their most sought-after items are the fudges and brittles, which make for great take-home souvenirs.
