Cronulla Has Gained A Brand New Foodie Destination In Pippis
Coming to you from the team behind The Grounds just in time for summer
There may be waterfront venues aplenty in the Shire, but there’s nothing quite like the freshly-minted Pippis. Coming to Cronulla from the creators of cult-status The Grounds of Alexandria and The Grounds of the City, Adam and Jasmin, this Mediterranean-inspired venue offers everything we’ve come to expect from a restaurant worthy of the area, and some.
Easy, breezy and relaxed, Pippis, located at the prestigious Calico Marina, promises a break from the price point of fine dining while still matching its level of sophistication and delicious food.
“We wanted to create a family-friendly venue, nothing overly refined,” explains Adam. “And we don’t want to overcharge. We would rather our customers eat here once a week than once a month. We offer BYO at every seating too.”
Matching its mellow vibes, Pippis’ interiors look plucked straight off the coast of Ibiza or Greece, where earthy terracotta tones meet textural rattan and timber, and playful patterns bring the joy. West-facing views onto Gunnamatta Bay don’t hurt, either. “It's giving Ibiza!” says Jasmin.
Menu-wise, Pippis follows in the footsteps of The Grounds network, but brings its own flair.“We use The Grounds’ products throughout the menu, including bread, granolas, teas and coffee,” says Adam.
Kicking off with breakfast and ending with dessert, Pippis pulls together the threads of Australian, Italian and Mediterranean cuisines. Think Shakshuka, Fluffy Pancakes with Pistachio Praline, and a signature breakky creation with Lamb Kofta. Onto lunch, expect Kingfish Crudo, Chickpea Pancakes, Cous Cous Salad and Charcoal BBQ Octopus. Similar dishes grace their dinner menu, including a piled-high Seafood Platter, Ragu Pappardelle and a nostalgic offering of Banana Split. Aside from freshly-caught seafood, pizza is set to form a big part of the menu, a decision that has come as a result of what Adam and Jasmin call their “pet project”.
“We've been making pizzas for a long time, but this particular type of pizza goes back to something a little bit more old-school, a bit more nostalgic…,” Adam reveals. “It's made with a deck oven, which cooks a lot lower and slower and produces a much more crunchy base, rather than a soggy one.”
With a portside position comes a certain set of perks.
Aside from events and catering, Pippis one-of-a-kind location means the team can offer boat delivery. Pull up, grab your lunch to go, and set sail - if that isn’t the ultimate Shire dream, we don’t know what is.
Officially open as of November 6th, the cherry on top of Pippis is the introduction of Sunday sets, where a live DJ will perform from 12:30pm - just in time for lunch. Keeping things casual, guests can also enjoy the easy option of BYO.
Pippis will be open for breakfast and lunch on Monday, and breakfast, lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday. Bookings can be made here.
