Step Inside The Meat Store’s Brand New Larger-Than-Life Location
This foodie experience is a cut above the rest
If you’ve been spending time browsing the fridge section of your local supermarket, stop what you’re doing right now. A trip to the local butchers is a longstanding tradition amongst us Aussies, providing both the finest cuts of meat and an experience that never fails to be a cut above the rest.
It’s a tradition that the family behind The Meat Store have worked hard to upkeep, having opened their first store right here in Caringbah to honour the grassroots of great butchery. But after almost 13 years of serving locals, Amy, Peter and Petar found themselves positively bursting at the seams with sausages, lamb cutlets and spare ribs - so like any successful and determined business owners, they went in search of something bigger and better. And they found it just a stone’s throw from their original stomping ground.
“Our new location meant that we were able to put in bigger display fridges, more shelving, a bigger cool room and even a kitchen. It has given us more space to keep innovating and expanding to suit our customers’ needs,” explains Petar, who believes that excellent produce is the key to a healthy and happy existence. “We believe that quality meat shouldn’t be a privilege, but something available to everyone.”
Those who have never cut the perfect piece of wagyu right from the source, or gone through the rigmarole of researching and identifying the best rubs, sauces and spreads may not know the processes’ full extent. But it’s an art, and one that requires dedication and industry know-how. “We speak to meat traders and artisan producers all across the country every day to find great deals every week,” explains Petar.
“Thanks to our new space, we are able to hold up to 70 pallets of meat, giving us the opportunity to have multiple weekly specials - and ultimately pass on the savings to our customers.”
Although some businesses sadly lose their humble and home-y essence upon expansion, this has not been the case for The Meat Store. In fact, the owners say they have been blown away by the positive local reception. The new freezer and party goods section (spanning handmade spring rolls, pastizzis, gelato and traditional European pastries and pastas) has been a particularly popular hit, as has the fresh produce and expanded artisan product range, which has grown from 450 to over 1600.
“Unlike produce found at the supermarkets, which is often sitting in the warehouse for weeks, our fresh fruit and veg is hand selected from growers every week.”
However, without a doubt one of the most groundbreaking additions to the new space has been the bulk meat cabinet, which offers customers the chance to snag wholesale prices. “Every week we arrange a new selection of large meat cuts and whole pieces. Families can buy in bulk and have it cut any way they like by our team of butchers,” Petar explains. “It’s a great way to save!”
Now, we can write and rave about The Meat Store until the cows come home, but you need to visit this foodie destination in the flesh. It’s an experience you’ll look forward to weekly.
