Sonoma bakery menai

Sonoma Bakery

The people at Sonoma Bakery are as passionate about sourdough as you can get. They have been serving their iconic loaves since the late 90s and Shire residents have finally been blessed with their very own store. They’ve got their own versions of classic bakery faves including almond croissants, Portuguese tarts, sausage rolls and pies up for grabs as well as cold-pressed juices and house-roasted coffee. Snag something from their bake-at-home range to take with you and be sure to pop by the Sutherland Shire Farmers Markets for their pop-up stall every Saturday. Scout tip: Their almond croissants are known to sell out, so we recommend getting in early over the weekend!

Groundbake Bakery

There's always a buzz at Groundbake as locals eagerly await their freshly baked loaves. There is no doubt that these guys produce some of the best sourdough in The Shire. They also serve up a handful of gluten-free options that have been described by some as ‘life-changing!’. Our picks? The slow-cooked chunky beef pie and delicious antioxidant bars. As Groundbake operates as a storefront only, we recommend popping down to Cronulla Park to indulge in your freshly acquired goodies.

Baked by Keiran

Baked by Keiran

One of the most exciting openings this year has been Sutherland’s new Baked By Keiran. Now Keiran’s 5th Sydney store, this bakery is a fab choice for a coffee catch-up with friends with ample sunny seating out front. Snag a loaf of their famous 72-hour sourdough, grab a coffee and indulge in a flaky pastry. These good people also craft some pretty awesome custom cakes so if you’re in need of something to celebrate with, you know where to go.

Thoroughbread

Thoroughbread

There’s a reason Thoroughbread is the chosen supplier for oodles of cafes across The Shire, including one of our faves, Jack Gray. Their organic loaves and pastries are as good as it gets. There are plenty of freshly baked sweet and savoury goodies up for grabs including buns, bagels and tarts. Another local go-to for their almond croissants too!

More Daily Ritual

Backing onto the much-loved Burraneer institution that is Our Father Cafe, More Daily Ritual was created as a way to add meaning to your daily ritual of acquiring your essentials. They offer bread, croissants, bagels, coffee and sandwiches, along with some pantry staples. Keeping things simple, intentional and delicious, More Daily Ritual is the perfect addition to Our Father Cafe.

Sweet Mayhem

If you’re looking for friendly vibes and indulgent bakes as a backdrop to your next coffee date, we recommend popping by this little piece of urban paradise. Ex Black Star Pastry chef, Maria Mayhew, heads up the team at Sweet Mayhem and stocks the cabinet with delicious fresh-made bites each day. Their menu can sort you out with a full-sized meal or just sweets. Our personal fave would be the bread and butter pudding served with warm custard as well as the Lemon Curd Meringue Chiffon cake - an essential for any celebration.
