Did you know that one Australian woman dies every nine days at the hands of her current or former partner? Each death, each abusive act, is one too many.

As a way to support the nationally recognised ‘16 Days Of Activism’, the Walk For Respectful Relationships Committee will be leading an hour long walk at Cronulla Beach on Friday 25th November. The walk aims to provide an opportunity for the community to come together and take a stance against domestic violence with the theme “Call out, speak out, help out”.

Raising awareness of the extent and impact of domestic violence, providing information on how to support victims and what community services are available and encouraging the understanding that we as individuals and as a collective have the opportunity to make a difference, are all aims of the walk.

Participants will also have the opportunity to view a collaborative photography exhibition by Hazelhurst Arts Centre and local photographer Tanya Tindale entitled, ‘From the shadows, into the light’, which will recognise women in our community who have experienced domestic violence. These pieces will be positioned at Dunningham Park, Cronulla from Friday 25 November to Saturday 10 December.

If you can’t get down to Cronulla to participate, you can show your awareness by taking a walk in your local area with family, friends or colleagues and talking about what you can do to create a safer community for women and children.

Marshalling for the walk will occur at 9am at Don Lucas Reserve ahead of the walk commencement at 9:45am. At the conclusion of the Walk at 10:30am there will be a Community Presentation, which is expected to conclude at 11:30am. Register here to participate.
