Your Guide To The Shire Farmers’ Market

We Talk You Through Your Must-Visit Stalls And More

Whimsy & Co, Shire Farmer’s Market

Farmers' markets are up there with one of the greatest joys in life - hot coffee, fresh blooms, flakey croissants, seasonal fruit and veg, and, of course, a smorgasbord of dogs to pat. Not only does The Shire boast its very own weekly farmers’ market but, in our humble opinion, it ranks up there as one of the best in Sydney.

First port of call - coffee. You’ve got three great options in the form of Alexander Roastery, Whimsy & Co and Columbian Coffee. Our favourite way to tackle the markets is with a steaming cup of the good stuff in one hand and a few bags ready to fill in the other. Another top tip? We love taking a loop around and perusing the goods before making a quick mental list of our must-buys.

Hosted on Saturdays, each market boasts a selection of regulars as well as an exciting line-up of pop-up stalls. If you’d like to see who will be in attendance ahead of time, you can check out an up-to-date list here.

As seasoned market veterans, it’s only natural we have a few faves.

THICC Cookies

First, the fun stuff. Swing by Valley Falls Dips for the absolute BEST hummus and selection of Syrian dips and accompaniments, Bake My Day for the very best baked goods, Sicilian Ciuri Ciuri for amazing Italian-style treats, and THICC for an OTT cookie.

FOR SOME OF THE FINEST CROISSANTS YOU’LL EVER TRY, DON’T MISS SONOMA BAKERY. THERE’S A REASON THESE GUYS HAVE ONE OF THE LONGEST LINES AT THE MARKET!

After securing the fun bits and bobs, you can also cruise the markets for any gifts you may need. Regulars include Taylor Made Tea, Vital Organics, D&D Flowers, Ocean The Label, Shire Succulents, Azteca Margaritas and, if you’re lucky, you’ll catch South Coast Distillery

Now it’s time to grab the essentials and, trust us, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to fresh produce. There are plenty of fruit and veg stalls to choose from as well as dedicated specialty stalls like Cheese On Wheels, The Egg Stall, Farmgate To Plate, Great Southern Mead & Honey, Mrs Fish and Wow Berries. You’ll also find the most popular stall for the four-legged folk in the form of Loyal K9. The Moo Chews come highly recommended by our furry friends.

By this point, not only will you be having a great time outdoors, but you’ll also be getting organised for the week ahead. All before the weekend has even started. AND you won’t have to deal with the Sunday rush of the supermarket. So many wins to be had.

Finally, a reward for all of your efforts. If you’re looking for a big Saturday brekkie, we recommend the corn fritters, a B&E roll from Farmgate To Plate or soft pillows of potatoey goodness from On Ya Gnocchi.

After enjoying your feed in the nearby park, all that’s left to do is pop on home and unload your spoils.

The markets are held every Saturday in the Flora Street Carpark in Sutherland, rain hail or shine and you can pop by anytime between 8 am and 1 pm.
